Inside Scoop
Founded in 1565. St. Augustine is the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European and African-American origin in the United States. Forty-two years before the English colonized Jamestown and fifty-five years before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock the Spanish established at St. Augustine this nation's first enduring settlement.
St Augustine can boast that it contains the only urban nucleus in the United States whose street pattern and architectural ambiance reflect Spanish origins.
It is also important to realize that 20 years after the civil war(1885) Henry Flagler decided to create a winter retreat for wealthy Americans. In 1887 his company began construction of two large hotels and then a year later a third hotel. His architects changed the appearance of St. Augustine and those building styles in time came to characterize the look of cities throughout Florida.
Touring the oldest city in Florida can be done on the Red Train which winds it's way throughout St. Augustine and you can listen to the history. Visiting the local museums you can see through paintings how St. Augustine appeared during the 1900's.

About the host: Steve & Brenda Schell. We have been in St. Augustine now for 16 years. Steve is retired Army National Guard. Our love for St. Augustine began while working here before retirement. We began sharing our love for St Augustine Beach by inviting family to town. This vacation home will enable us to share St Augustine Beach with you! Currently we have 2 homes but it seems like St Augustine is the main residence. Our other home is in Central Florida where we grew up and our families are still located.
Residents in St. Augustine are fun and enjoyable. The atmosphere is friendly.
Time will slow down. You will not want to leave!
Why this property? The Sea Turtle has Unit A and Unit B available to rent. We have provided everything you will need to enjoy a month of fun. A large deck in the back yard has even been added for relaxation and evening visits. Local artwork is being added. The futon couch/bed is for you to invite guests during your stay. The newly landscaped yard with fence, sod and gravel allows you freedom with your pet out back. The walk to the beach is short. Return home for lunch or visit local restaurants without the need to drive.
Sitting and walking on the beach in the morning or evening and spending the day with our grand kids in the sand are our favorite things to do. The walks downtown are also enjoyable. Every time we go downtown we find a new street to enjoy or a new restaurant that we have not tried. We love our time in St Augustine and so will you!
In addition to the Beach, the Historic District is close and you can participate in seasonal events.
January...Nights of Lights
March...St Patrick Day parade
April...Seafood Festival
July...Fireworks over The Matanzas

St. Augustine Beach, SEA TURTLE #A
This house was just what we were looking for. A quite neighbor hood. It was in walking distance to the beach and many great restaurants The rear of the home was fenced in for privacy and had a really nice deck furnished with a grill, pic nic table, and several chairs. The house Inside was furnished with everything we needed for a great vacation. The owners Brenda and Steve couldn't have been nicer. This was our second year staying there and plan to go back in the future. You will love it.

Barbara. Thanks for the great review. We really enjoy having you both as guests. Our goal has been a home away from home for our guests. St Augustine has so much to offer and for you to be able to stay a whole month allows you to do all the things slowly and enjoy each day. We look forward to seeing you next year. Have a great summer!
Love the Sea Turtle
This year marked our 2nd stay at the Sea Turtle. Next year will mark our 3rd and while we're not wishing our lives away we can't wait until we return to escape another cold Michigan winter! The location is perfect, mid St Augustine Beach, a few short blocks from the ocean, at the end of a quiet street, close to amenities and nearby attractions. The unit is fully equipped, stocked with everything needed to make your stay as comfortable as if you were in your own home. One thing we love about the unit is the back deck, surrounded by tropical foliage, where you can hear the ocean waves at night. I’m also a big walker and walking from the Sea Turtle to the ocean to watch launches from Cape Canaveral are memories I also treasure. The Sea Turtle is a gem and we're so glad we found when shopping for a winter escape.

Rick. We have really enjoyed visiting with you each year. You expressed exactly why we created the Sea Turtle. A home away from home yet at the beach. When we first experienced St Augustine 15 years ago we thought we had found heaven. Could not believe the beauty and wonder on the beach and around town. Especially when our grands visited with us. We are pleased you found us and hope others will join us throughout the year. Thanks for the great review. See you next year.
Home away from home
We moved from NY and had over a month until our new home was ready in SC, friends in St Augustine found this pet friendly duplex gem 2 blocks from the downtown & beach. Completely stocked with all you need & more, very clean and adorable. Nice deck, fenced yard for privacy, Owners, Brenda & Steve are very friendly & more than accommodating for any of your needs. It is a 1 bedroom, which is comfy & cozy, but has a pull out futon in living area that folds to a twin for additional guests.Bring your bikes, wonderful area to explore or ride on the endless beautiful beaches at low tide. We will return in March, can’t get enough !

Thank you Chris for the great review. I know you are enjoying your new home. We have decided to provide bikes for our guests. Your wife enjoyed her bike rides so much that we knew it would be a great addition for future guests. We are looking forward to seeing you again in March. Brenda
Perfect beach rental with countless attractions nearby
Hosts Steve and Brenda were a pleasure to work with. They were very informative, friendly and accommodating. We stayed May thru June and can't wait to be back. Upon arrival the unit was clean and organized and we especially appreciated the notes and manuals. They provided anything and everything to make you feel right at home (cookware, beach toys, blankets/pillows, a cart to bring your beach items which made the 5 minute walk to the beach so convenient). If you forget anything or for grocery shopping you have Windixie, Target and Publix nearby. The rental is on a dead-end street (great for kids) and the surrounding area felt safe and family friendly. The backyard deck was perfect for taking in the sun and the sounds of birds. We enjoyed hanging out at the beach as much as possible. However, if the beach is not your thing, I recommend taking a walk to the pier (less than a mile away). We fished there, saw sea turtles, dolphins, jellyfish and baby sharks. We also went to 2 different miniature golf locations, checked out their lighthouse (I recommend paying to climb up and enjoy the breathtaking view), visited the Alligator Farm and went downtown St. Augustine. There is not enough space here to mention all the great things downtown St. Augustine has to offer. You have historic sites, forts/castles, shopping, delicious restaurants, boat and trolley tours, free outdoor concerts etc. The easiest way to familiarize yourself with all that downtown St. Augustine has to offer is to take the trolley tour. Everything is within a 10-15 minute drive. If you do not have a car there is a trolley that runs through all I mentioned free of charge. In conclusion, if you're looking for a central location with countless attractions/dining, a place that has everything you need and a host that goes above and beyond to make you feel at home...look no further and book your reservation with Brenda and Steve!!

Elaine. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us. December, 2022 was colder than most years. There were still those beautiful days for walking around downtown and on the beach. St. Augustine is so relaxing this time of year and we are glad you had a good time. We find new places to eat every month so next time I will leave you a list of what we enjoy! Have a great year! Brenda Schell
Our rental and stay was simply amazing.
Sea Turtle along with Brenda and Steve Schell surpassed all of our expectations. The unit was pet friendly and fully equipped to meet all of our needs. The deck was perfect for socializing and naps! Sea Turtle was meticulously clean and the Schells made it very clear that they were available if we had any issues. The neighborhood was very clean and quiet while being very friendly. Proximity to the beach is awesome with many food venues within a simple easy walk. We loved our time at Sea Turtle and highly recommend it to all.
