The Salty Mermaid is a fun and funky, dog friendly, ground level, vintage beach charmer. She has been fully renovated, is new to the rental market, and is ready to host you for your vacation on St. George Island.
Featuring 3 bedrooms, an extra lounge room/bedroom, and 3 full bathrooms plus a daybed in the Florida room and a sleeper sofa in the living room we can accommodate up to 8 guests.

Dogs of all sizes and breeds are welcome, the backyard is fully fenced in and there is a dog door off the back screened in porch. We allow up to 3 dogs with no dog fee.
LOCATION:
Located in a quiet area on the West Bayside of the island The Salty Mermaid is .3 miles from the beach, a 7 min walk, and 800 ft from the county beach/baycccess where you can launch kayaks and paddle boards. (no boat launch here) With a zero step entry at the front door The Salty Mermaid is great for anyone who doesn't want to climb stairs to access the house.
LIVING AREA:
The heated and cooled Florida room features a daybed, two seating/lounge areas, a dining area with a passthrough to the kitchen, and a surfboard bar. The custom built wood sliding doors leading in to the house from the Florida room close to create privacy or a separate sleeping area.
The open concept living area features a brand new fully stocked kitchen with black granite countertops and an island large enough to seat 8, new black stainless steel appliances and a refrigerator with two ice makers to keep your beverages cold on and off the beach. The kitchen has everything you need to cook up your catch of the day, make a gourmet meal, or whip up a batch of frozen cocktails.
The dining area has a round vintage table that seats 6 in swiveling pub chairs, perfect for dinner or family game night. The additional dining areas at the kitchen island and in the Florida room allow for seating for your entire group.
The living room features comfy sofas and chairs, and has a 64" flat screen tv equipped with Roku and Apple TV for all of your streaming needs. We also have a selection of board games and jigsaw puzzles for rainy days or evening entertainment.
Each of the bedrooms and the lounge/bedroom also have a smart TV.
BEDROOMS:
Suite Palm (Owners Suite): King Bed, Ensuite Bathroom with walk-in shower.
The Pink Flamingo: Queen Bed, Ensuite Bathroom with walk-in shower.
The Atomic Fish Room: Queen Bed.
Mermaid Queen Bathroom: Tub and shower located immediately outside the Atomic Fish bedroom.
The Lizard Lounge: An extra room that can be used as a fourth bedroom or as a lounge area. The sofa folds flat to create a double bed or we have two child sized cots available to set it up as a kids room. The Lizard Lounge leads out to the screened in back porch with a seating area, bar railing and a large hot tub.
OUTSIDE:
Two outdoor decks and a screened-in back porch allow plenty of outdoor living space. The side deck has a hot and cold outdoor shower and room to drop off and store beach equipment. There is a hot tub on the back screened porch and an above ground pool in the back yard.
St. George Island is one of the last Old Florida vacation spots. Uncrowded beaches and amazing fishing await you on the island. There are lots of outdoor activities to do here including fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, and bike riding.
At the east end of the island is the amazing St. George Island State Park with even less crowded beaches, great fishing, and hiking it is a must visit while you are on the island.
The entire island is dog friendly and has several restaurants and bars to feed and entertain you. You can find fresh oysters, cold beer and live music daily!

I actually had a very rewarding trip but not much fun . As for being satisfied I must do full disclosure and tell you it is my families 31st year coming to St George in a row so that gives that away. So it wasn’t much fun because we were there to reorganize , furnish , paint inside and general work required to prep the new house I bought for rental. So folks remember “ Green Grass & High Tides “ When looking for your next house rental. Managed by a new up & coming Heaven Garrett at Southern Coast vacation rentals. Please send me another review request mid August because I’ll be back for one week in a previously rented house for a week and then a second week in our new house … did I say the name is Green Grass & High Tides ?.I promise you it will be a raving review of the place we stumbled on to 31 years ago & love so much we finally bought a house there. Or … yes, I will have a fun time , catch many fish, go to st James or St Joe golf & country club for golf , wander the night time streets of Apalachicola searching for good people , good food , good music , good shops whether you are looking for alligators to Zebra fish. ( what ever that is ) or building sand castles with my grandson on the beautiful beaches of St George Island ( voted No. 1 beach in the No. state in the No. country USA in …. Wait for it … in th World! Look it up. 900 W Bayshore Dr . Right across th street from Beautiful Franklin County Regatta Park. Safe travels to all my fellow St George Island trekkers . Go see the State Park too. And don’t forget that pirates hid treasure around there somewhere! Or did they???

Great location: a short walk down a county road to the beach; a short drive into restaurants, groceries, and stores. The house is decorated in fun colors that are relaxing and uplifting. Host thought of everything needed for a comfortable stay. Back porch, great outside shower and hot tub, beautiful kitchen, comfortable beds fenced back yard. Great family friendly house (including the dog)! Honestly, we loved this house! And our week on St. George Island. Be sure and drive to the 9 mile beautiful pristine State Park. We will return to Salty Mermaid.
