About this rental
We fell in love with this newer (2016) custom-built estate when trying to decide if we wanted to buy our vacation home in the Smoky Mountains or along the ocean. This home combines both the gorgeous views experienced when staying in a chalet amidst pine trees and serene water views with Cape San Blas in the distance. It has balconies with seating off of most of the rooms of the house. Most of the balconies are completely screened-in including screens under the decks to prevent any insects from joining the relaxation you deserve when being a guest at Calypso Light Haus. The front porch deck is not screened in which allows guests to feel one with nature while taking photos of the sunsets and/or stunning water views without obstruction from the screens. Likewise, one of the 4 balconies in the back also is unscreened for taking pictures of the sunrises, wild life in the conservation area including cardinals, hawks, & a variety of other wild-life.
There is a lovely patio area on the ground level, surrounded by 5 citrus trees, flowers, sand, and a fire pit with seats, all of which allow guests to enjoy campfires, and cooler breezes in the evening, even when daytime temperatures climb above 90.
The house is 3 floors with an elevator for adult use only. A golf cart and bikes are currently offered free of charge. The home includes 4 beach chairs and a beach umbrella as well as plenty of additional patio seating.
Extremely well-behaved pets are sometimes permitted for an extra fee and on a case-by-case basis.

Area Information
Our Windmark public Beach is within a 2 minute golf cart ride or short drive from our gated portion of our community. This estate has access to 3 pools. One is at the club house, basically across the street. The other is near the entrance to the Windmark community and includes a play ground as well as an outdoor bar maintained by the exquisite restaurant called, "The View on Old 98!" Country music lovers might be interested to know that Lauren Alaina and Kane Brown were spotted dining there in July 2021, with their families.
Cape San Blas is 15 minutes away. It has beach homes similar to ours which book for over 8,000 per week. We hear from multiple guests that their Cape San Blas vacation rental has raised their weekly fees by more than 2,000. Many people who stay at Cape San Blas still prefer to drive to the State park to get closer to the North end of the cape. Our guests figure it is well-worth it to stay at our pristine custom-built home, have the amenities of a gated community, privacy and 3 pools as well as Windmark beach while saving thousands of dollars in weekly rates to not be "on the cape." Our guests reason if they have to drive to their spot on the beach anyway, they might as well drive 15 minutes further and be able to stay for 2 weeks instead of having only a 5 minute drive, but not be able to afford vacations for years. Also, the lovely quiet gated-community part of our street makes stargazing at the gazillions of stars in the sky save , even as you stroll down the street at night.
Plus our house boasts beautiful wooded views as well as water views from many of the rooms in the house.
Favorite Places To Eat
The View on Old 98 and Mercantile Social often have live music , located right within our Windmark community, within a short golf cart ride from your vacay home ! There are also other new shops & even a new pizza place all easily accessible via the golf cart or your car. Port St. Joe also has restaurants and shops in town, a lighthouse to tour and the State of Florida constitution museum, all within a 10 minute car ride. Cape San Blas is a fun beach town within about 15 minutes of your vacay home, which also has fun restaurants & beach shops, fishing charters, etc.
Inside Scoop
The abandoned ship washed ashore at the southernmost tip of Cape San Blas.
The hike from the rocks where people park along the road, to the site of where it washed ashore is about a mile, but you are apt to see amazing birds such as eagles and pelicans on the way. (There has been a lost alligator spotted in the rocks at times, but s/he usually stays away from people.)
This is also a great place to go to look for shells. If you don't want to hike through the brush, it's best to go during low tide.
The ship which was washed ashore was called, the Donna Kay; however, it was recently removed for safety and environmental reason. Regardless, the trek to where the "Donna Kay used to be" is a right of passage for guests who come to explore Cape San Blas. Most of the time we have made this trek to the "Southern-most point in the Gulf," we have looked to the skies and seen 2 or 4 bald eagles. It's also a great place for gazing at shells, driftwood, or amazing wildlife.
We have also been told that around the state park there are coves where you can swim with sea horses. Renting a pontoon to take a trip around the tip of the cape, you are extremely likely to see dolphins.
Appalachicola is another quaint town on the way to St. George Island from Port St. Joe or Cape San Blas. Appalachicola has an amazing "Fireman's Festival," usually in January with thousands of the nicest small town people in the world enjoying the fresh air. They also have other festivals throughout the year.
The Windmark HOA community also has been known to host fun parties, events, book clubs, parades, and monthly bonfires at various times throughout the year. Let us know if you are interested in being updated about any of these events.
Amenities
Other Vacation Rental Amenities
There is now a small dog park in our Windmark community plus access to 3 swimming pools, one of which, the "quiet pool," is just steps away from the house and overlooks the ocean!
The state park out on Cape San Blas includes additional activities and miles of hiking as well as wildlife watching. Eagles can often be spotted while hiking on the southern end of the cape near the area where the "Donna Kay" ship washed ashore.
We have also spotted eagles and hawks especially during winter months flying over our house or perching in the conservation area behind our house. A baby bear has been spotted two streets behind our house. We have spotted dolphins playing and jumping through the water while boating between our house and the Cape. Pelicans and other water foul are spotted daily on the perches and piers right across the street from our house. Please do not feed bears or dolphins.
Our Windmark Beach is popular for its calm and shallow waters making it pleasant for all to enjoy whether you’re swimming, kayaking, or paddle boarding! Keep your eyes on the water because you’re almost assured to see dolphins at play just offshore! The large Village Center Pool offers zero entry walk-in and a green area with playgrounds for the whole family to enjoy! The community features 3.5 miles of path running alongside the gulf, The View restaurant overlooking the water, The Mill general store, and more! “Fit As A Fiddle” located in Village Center offers fitness pass packages for guests to enter with a code at any time and there are also scheduled fitness classes. Windmark Beach “village” experience will have you loving every minute of your family vacation! This home is located in the Eastern time zone
Our Calypso Light Haus vacation home is located in the "Phase 1" gated community estate homes portion of the popular waterfront community of Windmark Beach! Just a short walk from the lovely beaches, this home features all of the popular amenities guests will appreciate. The large porches make relaxing outdoors a pleasant way to relax. The screened-in porch off the dining area makes outdoor dining with family and friends enjoyable away from Florida’s bugs. (There are even screens under the decks to be sure the area stays pest-free.) The home is also equipped with a gas grill. The many private balconies provide plenty of r and r spaces for every one of your guests!

About the host: We enjoy encouraging other families to "discover" this lovely part of Florida! The Windmark vibe makes it a very special place!
Why this property? This property is easy to get to, and while it feels very peaceful, it is also closer to hospitals and other needed amenities than being out on the peninsula past Cape San Blas would be. There are multiple times a year when the road to Cape San Blas or to St. George Island is blocked. This can be dangerous. Likewise, cell service in those areas is not as good as we have at Calypso LightHaus. In additional we are closer to a variety of beaches as well as closer to the Panama City Northwest Florida Beaches Airport and closer to the Destin airports than other areas on this "Forgotten Coast" are. There are also more "boil water" advisories out on the peninsula or out past the Cape San Blas then what we have. On top of that, prices are often more expensive there, but dealing with water issues and making it back to town for restaurants or other necessities makes staying at Calypso LightHaus the best choice. Plus of course, the house is stunning with gorgeous wooded and ocean views, many balconies, perfect, even on rainy days!

Calypso Light Haus at Windmark Beach
Our party of six had an amazing time. We loved the decor and comfort of the house. The views and sunsets from the balconies are breathtaking. The house came with a ton of amenities including a golf cart, beach chairs, bikes and two community pools. The beach was very clean with beautiful white sand. This was our first time in the area and would definitely recommend to others. We enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back.

You all were wonderful guests, and we hope you're able to come back soon!
Wonderful vacation.
We arrived o April 19 and stayed though May 3rd. It was an amazing home. So clean and neat. We enjoyed the pool across the street and the view was amazing. My grown son and daughter took my grandkids to the beach everyday then to the pool. Everyone said best family vacation ever. We enjoyed the use of the golf cart to go to the beach. Brought wood to take advantage of the wonderful fire pit. I totally enjoyed all of the porches during different times of the day. I have no complaints whatsoever about this beautiful well equipped home. We we able to bring our dog and that means a lot to us he is very low key and enjoyed the views as well. Hope to stay there again SOON! The owners are so sweet to talk to.

Beautiful home, beautiful views, quiet and restful area.
Calypso Lighthaus was even better than the pictures! It was roomy and well laid out for two families. The screened in porch was a favorite in the morning for coffee and talking. Calypso's location was in a very quiet area with beautiful views of the water and across the street from the pool. We loved the pool and how it overlooked the bay. Our stay was wonderful. Port St. Joe is a low traffic little fishing town, and we were able to get seafood there to cook as well as eat out. Only about six minutes from the house.

5 Star Accommodations
Beautiful home nestled in an equally beautiful neighborhood. The views and privacy are priceless. My family of 5 and dog couldnt have chosen a better home to vacation in, and will definitely be back. Port St Joe is a diamond in the rough for those looking to avoid the heavier crowds you find in Panama and Destin. Between crab hunting on the beach at night and the fishing charter, the memories made with the family will be life long. Thank you Jane and Kurt for your hospitality and accommodations.

Relaxation and luxury
This house was a short golf cart ride to the beach and pool. The house had a fully stocked kitchen and very comfy beds. A quick ten minute car ride to cape San blas park. 30 min to PCB. Screened in porches made for a very relaxing evening without getting eat up by bugs. Owners were wonderful to work with and very easy going. I highly recommend this house. We took 8 with us. There was plenty of room and lots to do.

Thanksgiving break
Loved my stay over the Thanksgiving holiday at Calypso Light Haus and plan to return to stay there in the future. The home is spacious, modern, and lives up to its lighthouse theme. It is mere steps to the pool which is essentially on the beach. The Haffners were fantastic hosts. I'm excitedly looking forward to my next stay there!!

Paradise
Our vacation was much more than we ever anticipated upon the arrival to calypso lighthouse!!! The house was absolutely immaculate better than the pictures and so convenient to everything. Having the ocean just steps away and convenient to a golf cart ride to a restaurant was perfect. Also having four dogs right in front of you to fish off of after dinner was a plus!!! Perfect location and perfect home!!! Loved having the pool right in front of our house!! Kurt and Jane were wonderful to work with , and we will definitely be back again!!
