Inside Scoop
If traveling to or from the mainland, the Manatee Ave. and Cortez Ave. bridges may open for boats quarter till and quarter after every hour so it's good to plan accordingly so as not to get backed up in traffic. Most restaurants fill up quickly in the spring and summer months. Some take reservations and some don't so it's good to plan ahead. Golf cart rentals can also become scarce during the busy seasons so it's good to reserve one well ahead of time such as from AMI Beach Buggys. The Center on AMI has all types of activities year round, including concerts, so be sure to check it out online prior to arrival. Some of the whitest sand and pure natural beauty lies at the most northern end of Anna Maria Island and is called Bean Point. The free AMI trolley runs approximately every 20 minutes from 6 am to 10 pm between The City Pier at the end of Pine Ave. and Bradenton/Coquina Beach. The main shopping areas are - Pine Avenue from Gulf Drive to the City Pier (shops are spread out as you go down the street), Holmes Beach (where Gulf & Marina Dr. intersect), Bridge Street (Bradenton Beach), and if you'd like to take a drive along the coast through Longboat Key - St. Armand's Circle (Lido Beach). Tide Tables and The Starfish Company are two very casual restaurants (just over the Cortez Bridge in Bradenton Beach) that have fresh seafood for a little less cost. If you want a good hamburger try Harry's, Duffy's, Skinny's, or The City Pier Grill. If you want an all-around affordable dinner experience... great cocktails, food and a nice atmosphere, try The Waterfront Restaurant. Ultraviolet rays are very strong on the west coast of Florida most of the year and it's especially easy in the spring, when it doesn't feel as hot and even on cloudy days, to quickly get a bad sunburn without realizing it so be sure to have sunscreen on hand!
