Area Information
Often referred to as the “Venice” of the Gulf of Mexico, Hernando Beach is one of the original, authentic, canal communities of Florida. Truly, a boaters paradise; and the last real community of backyard canals in Florida, offering direct access to the Gulf.
The properties around this northern, Eagles Nest community of Hernando Beach are all well maintained. Here, people take pride in ownership. This is a safe, quiet, waterfront neighborhood.
There are two separate canal systems in Hernando Beach. The northern canals are saltwater and have direct access to the Gulf of Mexico. The southern canals, which include the middle section, are mostly freshwater and do not have direct access to the Gulf. Hernando Hideaway IS on a canal with direct Gulf access. That, in and of itself, makes this tranquil, off-the-beaten-path destination desirable to boaters and fishing enthusiasts.
The clear turquoise waters surrounding Hernando Beach are dazzling! Clean rippled sand bars are plainly visible through clear waters around Hernando Beach. These flats are cherished scalloping sites during scalloping season and offer scuba adventuring any time of the year.
Hernando Hideaway is just a few short miles from the Weeki Wachee Wildlife Management Area, an 11,206-acre nature preserve with walking and cycling trails, spots for launching kayaks and fishing. Weeki Wachee Springs State Park has mermaid shows about every 15 minutes. Crystal River, a popular spot for kayaking and manatee sightings, is 20 minutes away. Busch Gardens is 90 minutes away. Tampa Bay Bucs stadium & Tampa Bay Rays are both 90 minutes. Disney is 2 hours.
Celebrated as Florida's Adventure Coast, the west coast offers freshwater rivers and springs, state forests, preserves, and Gulf waters, which provide opportunities for many land and water adventures for residents and tourists.
There is no shortage of entertainment, scenic beauty, or activities in this area! Hernando Beach is also known for its mouthwateri

About the host: Hi! We’re your hosts, Joe & Josie, owners of Hernando Hideaway. We’re a husband and wife team, originally from Northeastern Pennsylvania. We invested in Hernando Hideaway (our first vacation rental property) in 2021. We spent a year fully renovating the home, and we’re truly excited for this new adventure!
We had our sights set on coastal property in an area that still had a small town feel. We fell in love with Hernando Beach, FL for the fresh seafood, the boating community, the locally owned restaurants, and of course, the weather. We are parents to a young son, thus we are passionate about creating a welcoming, safe, five-star, family-friendly waterfront vacation experience. We live in Michigan with our son and two dogs.
We love traveling and can't wait to travel more, once our son is older. Our favorite travel destination is Italy. We are foodies! We enjoy trying new restaurants and wines. We love connecting with guests from around the globe. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions. We’re sincerely happy to host you and we’re knowledgeable about the area. We’re confident that you will love Hernando Hideaway just as much as we do!

The most thoughtfully prepared Rental
This was the most amazing and needed vacation in years! This Airbnb has more comforts of home than home does! There is everything you could possibly need and want and more. I can’t say enough good things about this place ️ To start, it’s absolutely beautiful. The pool is crystal clear and heated for those cooler nights. The s’mores is such a great touch especially for the kids but is adults loved it too! Each balcony offers something different from couches to swinging chairs. The kitchen has every gadget possible and all you need for cooking. You literally only need to bring your clothes and food and everything else is provided for you! The beds were SO COMFORTABLE and the towels were soft. We did everything from fishing to kayaking to throwing the football around in the yard and everyone enjoyed the indoor and outdoor games that were provided. It gave us so much family fun. If I could give 10 stars I would! Best stay, best place, and best hosts!
