GENERAL
INFORMATION ABOUT CAPE CORAL
Cape Coral is a city of approximately 180,000 people. It was planned and developed by two brothers, Leonard and Jack Rosen, in the late 1950s. It was built in the 1960s and 1970s. Cape Coral is one of the 10 most populated cities in the State of Florida. It encompasses about 122 square miles and has over 400 miles of canals. It was designed as a bedroom community and mostly consists of single-family residence, although about 8% of the city is zoned for commercial businesses.
There are both freshwater and brackish water canals in Cape Coral. Cape Coral is located on the north side of the Caloosahatchee River with Fort Myers being on the south side. The Caloosahatchee River is the only river which is navigable all the way through the State of Florida from the Gulf of Mexico to the Atlantic Ocean. Our home is located a few miles from the Gulf of
Mexico (about 1 mile to open water) and about 140 miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The water in the canals in front of our homes is brackish and has about 1/10 the amount of salt as the Gulf of Mexico.
Dolphins, manatees and rays are common in some of the canals closer to the river as well as many different types of fish including an occasional shark. Alligators are generally not found in the canals near our homes, although they may be found in canals near the Eco Parks. We have lots of small little harmless lizards and occasionally you may see much larger green iguanas (1 to 4 feet).
The weather in Cape Coral is generally sunny with highs during the daytime approaching 90° in the summer and 80’s in the winter. During winter months, there is very little rain. The rainy season runs from June. Through Sept. During the rainy season, we generally get 1 rain a day which usually comes sometime around 3:00 PM. That rain generally lasts about 45 minutes and then the weather becomes clear again. Accordingly, unless you're out in the rain, it shouldn't interfere with your activities.

BEACHES
Cape Coral
Yacht Club Beach, 5819 Driftwood Pkwy, Cape Coral
This is the closest beach, roughly 10 minutes away. There is a sandy beach,
restaurant, park, community center, tennis courts, playground and a boat gas dock. This beach is generally not too busy and quieter than the larger beaches on the Gulf of Mexico.
BOATING
PUBLIC BOAT LAUNCHES - If you brought your own boat we are aware of three public boat launches:
•
The Yacht Club 5819 Driftwood Pkwy
•
Rosen Park 2414 SE 15th Terrace
•

If you decide to rent a boat, you can use the outside of the long section of the dock to park your boat on the opposite side of our boat lift where we store our boat. I know CC Boats will deliver to your dock and go over everything with you for added convenience. Other boat rental places may do the same. Inquiry with each. I know delivery can be very convenient and a time saver while you are on
vacation.
FISHING
Fishing off your dock is an option. You can catch a variety of other fish. Bait and fishing licenses can be purchased at Walmart.

Publix 1616 Cape Coral Parkway, Cape Coral (closest grocery store)
Walmart Supercenter 1619 Del Prado Blvd. S., Cape Coral
Win-Dixie 1016 Cape Coral Pkwy. E.. Cape Coral
Merrick Seafood 1229 SE. 47th Ter., Cape Coral .
Merricks supplies 200 of the area restaurants fish each day. Go early in the day so they are not sold out. Grouper which generally costs about $25 a pound is a very good fish. A great deal is to go early in the day and you can buy Grouper pieces for $12 a pound. The pieces are grouper but have been cut up due to the restaurants’ requirement for standard-size pieces of fish. Wonderful on the grill! Also, many prepared dishes ready to pop into the oven.

About the host: My husband and I live in Spring Lake, Michigan. We own Vis Realty Group in our home town. We own rental properties in Michigan plus Panama City, FL and St. Petersburg, FL
Why this property? When we vacationed in Cape Coral we loved the moderate subtropical climate, especially since Michigan weather is so cold in the winter. This means you can go to the beach year-round. Each December we spend Christmas on the beach with our family. There is no better feeling than hearing about your friends freezing up north while you’re spending a day at the pool or beach with your family.
We are boaters and enjoy the elaborate network of Gulf access canals that make this a fairly unique location to live. There are not that many places where you can buy a home with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico.
We also love this home because of the numerous recreational activities available at all times of the year. We are huge golfers so this climate for golfing is awesome. We also enjoy fishing and relaxing on a calm, sandy, and sunny beach.
