Area Information
Cape San Blas is a narrow stretch of land that extends out from Port St. Joe and curves around St. Joseph Bay in the Florida Panhandle. The Cape offers a variety of water sports, including swimming, fishing, kayaking, boating, and snorkeling. The absence of high rise buildings and commercialization has helped the Cape maintain its unspoiled beauty and laid-back charm.
Some can't-miss attractions include:
Loggerhead Trail, an 8.7-mile paved pathway that runs the length of the Cape for walking, running and biking.
Salinas Park boasts both Beach Access and Bay Access. You'll also find Serenity Trail, pickle ball courts, volleyball courts, a playground, horseback riding on the beach and screened-in pavilions for picnics.
St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, offers 1,900 acres of tranquil beaches and hiking along two nature trails. The park offers boat, kayak and paddle board rentals to explore one of the least populated and richest ecosystems along the Florida Coastline.
St Vincent's National Wildlife Refuge is managed to preserve, in as natural a state as possible, it’s highly varied plant and animal communities. The Refuge is an important stop-over point along the Gulf coast for neotropical migratory birds and a haven for threatened and endangered species. Favorite Places To Eat
The sunsets at Bluewater Beach House are unparalleled, so we recommend breakfast, lunch and dinner on the screened porch with takeout from the following:
Doughnuts from Weber's at the Trading Post--a Cape tradition. Get in line early! We recommend the maple croissants with pecans on top! Coffee and doughnuts on the porch listening to the waves crashing and watching the dolphins....
Fresh seafood takeout on the porch from St Joe Shrimp Company or Scully's Low Country Boil on the Cape, or order fresh caught seafood from the Shrimp Ladies who deliver.
After sunset--a bike ride to the Trading Post for ice cream.....another Cape tradition!
If you must leave the beach.....
Longbills is less than a mile from the house. We love the fish taco's and salted caramel cheesecake--and it's pet friendly, so bring your furry family member and hang out on the screened porch. Peachy's, next to the Trading Post on the Cape has incredible fish and shrimp taco's. The Cape Smokehouse--the best burnt ends! The Indian Pass Raw Bar around the corner from the Cape is famous--it has been in the New York Times!
For special occasions we recommend The White Marlin and Provisions in Port St Joe and the Franklin Cafe at the historic Gibson Inn in Apalachicola. Joe Mama's for Pizza, Peppers and Quattro Loco for Mexican and TIGF for French in Port St Joe, and The Hole in the Wall for great seafood in Apalachicola.

About the owner: I first came to the Cape with my family over 50 years ago. My dad, an Air Force physicist, was a developer of the Gulf Test Range which encompassed the tracking station on Cape San Blas. Some of my favorite family memories are splashing around unspoiled beaches with my brother and sister and nightly bonfires at a beach motel near the Cape.
Fast forward 30 years, after seeing the high rise condos and development in Destin and 30A near my home, I came back to Cape San Blas....looking for the untouched beauty I remembered from my childhood. My wife and I quickly bought our first beach home....and we have spent the last 20 years enjoying the serenity of the Cape with our family, as well as lifelong friendships we have developed with our neighbors on the Cape.
We take great satisfaction in sharing our love for the Cape with our guests. We enjoy exploring the new restaurants and activities the area offers, so that we can provide informed recommendations to our guests. Similarly, we love hearing about all of the fun things our guests have experienced at the Cape!
Why this property? We moved to the Cape full time for 6 months to rebuild after Hurricane Michael. During our stay, we took long beach walks and bike rides on the Cape. We decided we wanted to relocate near the State Park. When we pulled up to Bluewater Beach House, we knew it was THE ONE--we didn't even need to go inside! Our families loved our previous Cape home and couldn't imagine a better place....UNTIL.....they saw Bluewater Beach House. We have taken long beach walks, viewed millions of stars at night at the top of our boardwalk, hosted longtime Cape friends to our new place, and watched hundreds of sunsets from our balcony. It's home; and it is our hope that our guests share our love for the Cape and Bluewater Beach House as well!
