Six Mile Cypress Slough Preserve

This cool spot is a hidden gem for nature lovers. With over 3,500 acres of wetlands, cypress swamps, and lush vegetation this preserve is filled with untouched natural beauty. There is a boardwalk trail that is open daily to walk and observe all the local wildlife. There are so many unique birds, turtles and so much more! You will see different things depending on the season. They also have an Interpretive Center that has interactive exhibits and a nature store.

Pro tip: We suggest visiting early in the morning or late afternoon to see the most wildlife. Also, don’t forget your binoculars! It will help with spotting all the cool creatures and birds.

Manatee Kayaking Company

Manatee Kayaking Company offers a variety of activities including manatee eco-tours, kayak rentals, and a gift shop. The park also has short nature trails, butterfly gardens, playgrounds, and boardwalks to watch and enjoy the manatees in their natural habitat. They have so many great outdoor options for all ages and groups. The manatee encounters are unique to the area, kayaking the mangroves is peaceful and gorgeous and the guided tours are educational and fun. So all in all you can’t go wrong no matter what you choose!

Pro tip: If you are doing a manatee tour we recommend booking it in the cooler months (November-March) or in the morning. This is when more manatees tend to be in the waters!

Mound House has a cool six exhibit museum which reflects two centuries of history and culture. They also offer kayak tours, guided tours and an unique underground exhibit where you will experience a nearly 2,000 year old Calusa shell mound. The kayak tours are guided and go through a maze of mangroves to see all kinds of local wildlife potentially including dolphins, manatees, herons and more!

Pro tip: We suggest taking advantage of the guided tours, as well as all the other activities. The tour guides are knowledgeable and keep it fun and interesting!

The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center is a cultural hub for art and history enthusiasts that offers a unique experience. They have diverse exhibits, historic architecture to admire as well as educational programs, events and live performances. The live performances include concerts, theater, dance and movies. Edison and Ford Winter Estates

These beautifully preserved estates give visitors the unique experience of stepping back in time.
